What the CRA says (as reviewed October 30, 2026)

Paying with crypto is treated like a barter transaction; use the fair market value in CAD at the time of the transaction and keep records of how you got it. GST/HST registrants calculate GST/HST on that fair market value. Whether a later gain is business income or capital depends on your facts. See CRA treatment of crypto received as business income and GST/HST on crypto payments.

    How to use it

    1. Enter the CAD price and province of supply.
    2. Enter the CAD value per unit at the time of the transaction and your rate source.
    3. Add the later conversion rate and fees.
    4. Download the record as CSV for your books.
